When you learn that you are
being referred for an MRI examination, you should discuss any
questions or concerns you have with your doctor. Because of the open
design of our system, any feeling of anxiety is minimized and there
is very little noise associated with the testing. There are no
restrictions regarding eating, taking medications or activities
before or after the test. The exam takes about an hour, during which
you will need to lie still on a comfortable padded table. You are
encouraged to bring a favorite CD (preferably one which will help
you relax) to listen to during the test.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging is very safe. The main exceptions are
patients with brain aneurysm clips, metallic foreign bodies in the
eye, very recent surgery, pacemakers or cochlear implants. If you
think you may be pregnant, please notify the technologists.
To prepare yourself for the study and give the best test possible,
we ask the following: Please do not wear any clothing with
metal clips or synthetic fibers—a cotton sweat suit would be
perfect. Earrings, necklaces, bracelets, watches, rings and other
jewelry will need to be removed if worn.
If you would like to fill out the registration form prior to your
visit, please download our screening sheet here:
